Keep informed about the new contagious mystery Dog illness

If you aren't already aware, there is a contagious respiratory mystery illness currently making it's way through the canine community.  It is transferred from dog to dog which can happen ANYWHERE - the dog park, doggy day care, the groomer, even visiting your veterinarian! IT IS VERY SERIOUS & POTENTIALLY FATAL.

With the 2023 Holiday season under way, more people will be boarding their dogs or traveling with their dogs, and it is extremely important that dog owners and lovers be aware of this new danger.

Watch out for wild mushrooms

Spring of 2023 brought on a super-growth of wild mushrooms in the Los Angeles area, causing pop-ups in yards and public areas easily accessible to dogs.

While not all mushrooms are toxic, unless you know the difference, it's best to keep a close eye on your dog and on fungus growth in your yard.  They are easily transferrable from yard to yard by lawn mowers if you use a professional gardener.

Be careful with squeaky toys

Dogs LOVE squeaky toys! But they also love to DESTROY squeaky toys. It's important for dog owners of all breeds and sizes to keep track of their squeaky toys and the status of their shred level as dogs can easily swallow the squeaker, which is not only a choking hazard, but can cause internal blockage necessitating a dangerous and expensive trip to the vet for emergency removal.

If your dog should swallow a squeaker - call your veterinarian immediately!

Beware the lure of cat poop

Cat poop smells like cat food to dogs, so naturally, they find cat poop to be the tastiest delicacy on the planet! And dogs are sneaky - one minute your affable pooch is sniffing the ground for a good spot to conduct some business, and the next - they're swallowing a big clump of outdoor cat poop.

While most dogs will likely only get an upset stomach after consumption, there's no way to know if the cat in question has parasites or is on medication.  If you suspect your dog has eaten cat feces, simply monitor them for any abnormal symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and low appetite over the next 24 hours.

If you have a cat on meds and you know your dog ate their poop (or kitty litter), contact your veterinarian immediately.
