FAQs
What do you need us to provide for you when you stay in our home with our pets?
Just the basics! Toilet paper, paper towels, access to filtered drinking water, clean sheets, towels, and Wi-Fi access.
How soon is too soon to book a sit?
I try not to book out for more than a year in advance. Other than that - it's never too soon! Holidays and long vacations are often booked 6-10 months in advance.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
Not for single drop-ins, but for overnight stays - Yes, but only if it's less than 4 weeks out or a holiday booking. The cancellation fee is $100. If a sit longer than 7 days is cancelled at the last minute, a cancellation fee of 50% is recommended to keep you in good standing, but currently not required.
What do the rates cover?
Cat drop-ins: $25 for feeding, kitty litter cleaning, and play/cuddle time if the cat is sociable. We are well aware that most cats want to be left alone – so we will not force our attentions on any cats who are wary of human strangers.
Dog drop-ins: $35 for an hour drop-in which usually includes walk, feed, play, and cuddle time.
Overnight stays $100/night ($90/night for your first booking). Unlike many services, Pets with Bets does not charge additional rates for additional dogs. We also do not charge for days during multiple night overnight stays.
Day long “babysits” - usually requested for long days away (such as 7am-11pm at Disneyland) have variable rates. Please see above.
What is your payment system?
We are not currently able to accept credit card payments through the website, but Pets with Bets accepts electronic payment via Zelle, Venmo, and Paypal, as well as personal check or cash.
What's the difference between Pets with Bets and a doggy daycare?
The biggest difference is we come to you! Being away from you can be a stressful situation for a pet, so we want to do whatever we can to make them more comfortable, including keeping them in their safe and cozy home environments where they have their beds and toys. We also provide more focused care since we won't be splitting our time watching other dogs or pets. Your pet is our #1 priority when we are there.
Additionally, with fears regarding the new contagious respiratory illness affecting dogs, you can rest easy knowing that your dog will not be exposed in a day care or boarding environment. Read more from USA Today at https://tinyurl.com/y536vtw8
What's the deal with tipping? Am I supposed to tip my dogsitter?
Dogsitting is a service and like any other service, it's your choice whether to tip or not, but tips are, of course, always welcome. Even though it's not required, when a sitter is faced with choosing between two dog-sits at the same time, they will usually choose or go out of their way to accommodate the pet-owners who consistently show their appreciation with tipping - especially those who have a difficult pet or multiple pets.
What type of animals do you care for?
Pet-sitting for us is about 85% dogs and 15% cats. We also take on the occasional guinea pig, rabbit, hamster, turtle, and backyard chickens! Sorry - NO SNAKES.
Do you sit for big dogs?
Yes! I grew up with big dogs and my dog-sitting clients include great danes, dobermans, pit bulls, boxers, german shepherds, huskies, staffordshires, rottweilers, Australian cattle dogs, and a rhodesian ridgeback who I nannied as a puppy and is now twice my size! No dog is too big. We love gentle giants!
Do you sit for senior dogs?
Yes! I sit for several senior dogs, so I am accustomed to middle of the night pee breaks if your elderly dog has incontinence problems and carrying them if they have a hard time walking. If you have a larger dog who needs to be carried back and forth because of age infirmity or surgery, we will set you up with one of Pets with Bets male sitters who can carry a heavier load. In terms of medicine for elderly or sick dogs: pills, creams, eyedrops, gumline oils, and liquid syringes are no problem at all.
Do you sit for puppies?
Yes! We are well aware of the full-time oversight a puppy requires and understand teething needs, pre-vaccination limitations, and early development care.
Do you do overnight stays for cats?
Yes! While cats don't need as much personal care as dogs, your baby is your baby and we're here to stay with them if that's what you'd prefer. The rate would be the same as dogs since it still requires the same time and TLC.
Do you board cats and dogs?
We do not personally board any pets (as we are almost always staying in someone's home with their pets) - however, Pets with Bets’s very own Quentin and his wife board cats at their cat-friendly Sherman Oaks home, and we have a dog boarding associate who takes 2 small dogs at a time at her West Hollywood home. I am happy to refer you to them.
